Biography

Gordon MacKenzie was born in Edinburgh on 29th December 1925.His real name was Michael MacKenzie.From an early age he loved to sing. He took a step towards a singing career by entering 'The Great Caruso Contest' and reaching the British final. He was rewarded for this by joining the chorus of the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company in January 1954. At that time he was using the name of Michael Lynch.
During one of the Company's American tours he met Robert Wilson who invited him to join the White Heather Group - a new career in variety and Scottish music hall. He joined in 1956 and with the White Heather Group made appearances at almost every town and village in Scotland, toured eleswhere in Britain, Europe and North America and made numerous appearances on BBC TVs White Heather Club.
