Brian, from Fife, was taught from an early age by his father Andrew and then in the Dysart & Dundonald Pipe Band by Robert Shepherd.In 1978 he joined the Scots Guards and served in Northern Ireland and the Falkland Islands. In 1982 he graduated from the Pipe Major's course at Edinburgh Castle and went on to become instructer at the school under John Allan.He is at present Pipe Sergeant 2nd Btn. Scots Guards. In the last few years he has won the following prizes:

1984: 1st Senior MSR - Oban 1990: 1st Gold Medal - Oban
1st Senior MSR - Inverness 1st MSR - Glenfiddich Championship
2nd Gold Medal - Inverness 1st Clasp - Skye
1st Gold Medal - Skye
1st Clasp - Skye
