FIRST HEARING:
Raved about throughout the world of country music with talk of awards, legendary status and, no doubt, a movie of the story & music.
This is from Shetland, the island way up above the Scottish mainland on your map, but this first hearing sounds like 'early - Tennessee' including the odd yodel.
Sparse, simply guitar & voice, but overflowing with atmosphere really sounding like a genuine 'find'.
The recordings were made on reel-to-reel and recently transferred.
Shetland has a very strong fiddle tradition but country music was never far behind - one suggested reason being that, as a far-off island, normal BBC radio reception was often poor but US Forces radio was fairly clear so Shetlanders were well used to hearing the type of music Thomas took up to perform.
Well worth a listen.
Lineup
Thomas Fraser - Vocals, Guitar & Fiddle.
