The Essential Bagpiping List.
1) Highland Cathedral – Royal Highland Fusiliers Pipe Band
The original recording of a tune that is rapidly becoming as popular as ‘Amazing Grace’. Joined here by their Regimental band.
2) March, Strathspey & Reel. – Strathclyde Police Pipe Band
The standard piece for all competitions. The ‘Police’ won ten World Championships in a row playing exactly like this.
3) Medley – Field Marshal Montgomery Pipe Band
The second part of competition pieces. This playhed by the 2007 World Champions live at the actual Championships from the winning band.
4) Regimental Company Marches – 1st.Batt The Highlanders
5) Journey to Skye - 78th Fraser Highlanders Pipe Band
With the sole exception of a trill on some ‘syndrums’ all that you hear on this is Pipes & Drums – no tricks, no gimmicks, just stunning.
6) The Hellbound Train. – Victoria Police Pipe Band
Pipe band concerts are becoming more popular and that allows for from some flashy playing. Here’s a trio of pipers being very flash.
7) Flowers of the Forest – Pipe Major Angus MacDonald M.B.E.
From the first album in the historic series “The World’s Greatest Pipers” this is unaccompanied solo piping.
8) Waltzing Matilda/Auld Lang Syne – Western Australia Pipe Band

Not as easy to do as you might think. (The bagpipes are short of a note). But album is full imaginative arrangements of great Christmas favourites.

Most of the bands here are World Pipe Band Champions (Grade One), the best pipe bands in the World or major Regimental bands. For the BEST pipe bands always look to see if they are Grade One.
