The Duggans

Biography

From the CD Booklet " Trad "

A well established traditional Galway family music group who have continued to go from strength to strength as the standard of their arrangements has increasinghly impressed the judges and audiences at the fleadhanna and comortaisi over the last decade.
Now as young adults playing concerts and local venues, the image of youngsters well practiced to perfection gives way to a deeper strength and unity of their melodies and arrangements. The studio approach to this presentation adds a limited ammount of supporting accompaniment, here and there, on various tracks by six of Galway's most respected musicians.

The feature characteristics of the Duggan's music is that they are terribly together and tuneful with their music. It has been suggested by other commentators of musical groups that only musicians of a common gene pool with years of practice and living together could hope to obtain such a high standard of sensing each others movements in tone and rhythm. Other musical families have demonstrated this advantage over non-famiial musicians, but certainly the Duggan's music stands on its own.
If one would listen to the rhythm changes and harmony lines, one would have to admit that it would not be easy to imitate this standard of musical togetherness.
