Biography

Pat Kilbride Biography (Courtesy of the Artists site, 2007)

Guitar player and singer, Pat Kilbride was one of the early members of Battlefield Band and is now one of the latest, coming full circle and rejoining the fold again in January 2002. Over the years in between, Pat has travelled and played all over the world with many fantastic musicians, and has rightfully earned his reputation as "the most progressive, dynamic guitarist currently performing in Irish music".

Pat comes from Co. Kildare in Ireland. He has played music from an early age, learning first the classical piano. He learned a deep love for Irish Traditional music from his mother who held several all Ireland Step Dancing Titles. He later taught himself guitar and cittern and developed these skills as a member of "The Pavies" along with Paddy Keenan and Davy Spillane (two of Ireland's greatest ever pipers). Pat joined Battlefield Band in the late 70's and during his time with the band, he recorded one album with them and toured throughout Europe.

Pat then went to live in Continental Europe. First he settled in Brittany and then in Belgium and during these years he was involved in many musical and recording projects. His album Rock & More Roses (Temple Records COMD2011) is made up from the best of his work over that period.

Pat moved to the US where he lived during the 90's. During that time he recorded 2 critically acclaimed albums for Green Linnet Records, winning a Grammy nomination for Best Folk Album in 1993, and becoming an established solo performer nationwide. Pat formed Kips Bay (Ceili Band), which made its debut in New York's home of avant-garde rock, CBGB's in February 1990. Kips Bay became a permanent fixture on the Irish American Festival circuit.

Moving on again, Pat relocated to London in the 90's and quickly immersed himself in the music scene there, recording his most recent solo album, Nightingale Lane (Temple Records COMD2089), during this period. The turn of the millennium saw a move to Spain and Pat is now based in Madrid where he has a home and recording studio.
