Biography

Bruce Macgregor

Bruce from Inverness, was originally taught by the late, great, Donald Riddell CBE. He has since gone on to develop a style that captures the very essence of Highland fiddle music, drawing on both east and west coast styles. As well as being the founder of Blazin Fiddles, Bruce played with the Gaelic group "Clair" for the last four years, unfortunately due to Blazin Fiddles committments he's had to leave. He also worked as a producer and presenter for BBC Radio Scotland. His programmes on early 19th century Highland fiddler Captain Simon Fraser and "The Strathspey King" - James Scott Skinner won him two awards at the international Celtic Film and TV Festival in 2000 and 2001. His debut solo CD was released on the Macmeanmna label and contains a mixture of his own compositions and those of his mentor, Donald Riddell and was received with much critical acclaim.Along with Duncan Chisholm and Iain MacFarlane Bruce was involved in the recording of "The Clunes Collection" an album dedicated to the music of their late tutor Donald Riddell. This is also available on Macmeanmna.

This years projects have included writing the music for the "Jacobite Experience" a musical journey through the history and myths of Loch Ness (now available on line), and a three week production of the "Strathspey King" along with cellist Christine Hanson which toured in April.
Bruce also made his acting debut in a BBC production "The Bell Rock" which will be screened in September. Also in that month he will be touring with former Wolfstone lead singer Ivan Drever - more details in the gig section
